Traffic Unit

Traffic Police in District Kinnaur is made up of a team of around 15 constables headed by I/C Traffic.

With analysis of past seven year data on accidents it has been found that nearly half of the accidents in District Kinnaur happen between 6-10 pm. This is primarily because the drivers ply their vehicles in drunken condition and the probability of accident of their vehicle increases. Other factors which lead to accidents are poor condition of roads, extreme hilly terrain, faulty maintenance of vehicles, weather, overloading, reckless driving and underage driving. However, maximum violations happen under Drunken Driving and Unauthorised Driving (w/o valid Driving License) in District Kinnaur. In violations of Drunken Driving, traffic police seizes the License of the violator and sends it to concerned RLA for suspension of license for 3 months as per Honorable Supreme Court Guidelines.

Apart from penalizing against MV Act violations, traffic police in its resolve is also making efforts towards management of Parking and No Parking areas within the Reckong Peo town and other busy stations within the district like Tapri, Sangla Bazaar, Bhawanagar, etc. Many Parking and No Parking zones have been notified by the Deputy Commissioner Kinnaur at Reckong Peo which are being implemented by the Traffic Police.
